St. Lucia Shore Excursions
St. Lucia is part of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles and is centrally located in the Eastern Caribbean. The principle language is English, although French, Spanish and Kwéyòl, St. Lucia ’s second language, is commonly heard.
The island is 27 miles long, 14 miles wide and totals 238 sq. miles. The terrain is varied with a central mountain range that runs the length of St. Lucia. The hills are dominated by forests, with jasmine and wild orchids providing brilliant bursts of color in the lush garden setting. Cascading waterfalls are part of this tropical paradise.
There are two volcanic peaks on the southwest coast, Gros Piton and Petit Piton. These two natural wonders are Caribbean landmarks. St. Lucia’s unique topography offers an opportunity to experience the world’s only “drive-in volcano.” This region is also home to the Sulphur Springs, renowned for its therapeutic healing powers.
St. Lucia is also known for its beautiful white sand beaches. The eastern side has the waves of the Atlantic breaking on the shore, while the eastern side is fronted by the serene Caribbean Sea. The crystal clear waters of this tropical paradise are perfect for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.
St. Lucia is rich in history. Its culture is a blend of Native, European and African influences. Agriculture and fishing are important pursuits. The result is a cuisine that combines the freshest of tropical ingredients. Native crafts are highly prized and can be found at markets scattered throughout the island.
