Valetta, Malta Shore Excursions



The following applies to all excursions:
-Guests are encouraged to bring credit cards or currency to purchase optional extras such as souvenirs.
-You should never feel that gratuities are expected from you. However, it is customary to leave a few extra Euros in recognition of service at restaurants, for taxis, and for exceptional excursion guides and drivers. It is always up to you as to what you feel is appropriate.

Beach Club (4 - 4.5 hours)
Take an approximate 30 minute drive to one of Malta's most popular private beach clubsthe Reef Club at the Westin Dragonara Resort in St. Julian's. Note: The beach club has a rocky shore front. There is a small sand entry for Guests unable to climb down a ladder.
Receive a welcome drink, sun bed and shared umbrella and enjoy 3 hours at your leisure to enjoy swimming in the pools or ocean, sunbathing or walking along the beautiful shoreline. the optional water sports equipment (snorkeling, jet skis, etc.) Note: Water sports available for rent at an additional cost.
Water sports equipment (parasailing, jet skis, etc.) is available for rent at an additional cost.
Transfer back to the ship.
-This tour is available on selected sailings.
-A welcome drink is included; additional food and beverage are available for purchase.
-Wheelchairs need to be standard size and collapsible; no electric wheelchairs/scooters permitted. Guests must be able to board and disembark the motor coach on their own and take 15-20 steps at the resort.
-This excursion is stroller accessible. However, some portions of the tour may require Guests to fold accompanying strollers. In addition, lightweight strollers are recommended.

Blue Grotto Boat Trip and Fishing Village (4 - 4.5 hours)
Take an approximate 40 minute drive to Wied iz-Zurrieq.
Make a brief stop for a panoramic view of the impressive natural rock structures of Wied iz-Zurrieq. Note: This tour includes approximately 0.5 miles of walking at a leisurely pace, part of which will be on cobblestones and/or uphill.
Board your boat and travel along the rocky coastline to the massive arch which marks the entrance to the Blue Grotto. You'll see six caves carved by years of relentless pounding by the sea, of which the Blue Grotto is the largest and most impressive. The water seems an impossible cobalt color as the sky reflects off the white sand bottom. Note: Each boat has a capacity of 6-8 Guests. Boats are berthed in a sheltered cove; guests will line up alongside the jetty and step in with the assistance of the boat captain. Lifejackets are mandatory.
Drive to the quaint fishing village of Marsaxlokk and enjoy 45 minutes of free time for independent sightseeing including exploring the market place and taking photos of the colorful Maltese fishing boats. (Wear comfortable walking shoes).
Drive approximately 30 minutes back to the pier.

-Boat trips may be cancelled due to weather conditions. In this instance, the boat ride will be replaced with a panoramic drive through the Three Cities.

Cruising on a Chartered Turkish Schooner (7.5 - 8 hours)
Embark from the pier on the Fernandes 1, a beautiful 85-foot schooner that has a large forward deck, a covered stern deck and a large saloon.
The schooner will cruise according to the prevailing weather conditions, visiting different bays on the way to the famous Blue Lagoon in Comino. En route, snap photos of the panoramic cliffs, coves and inlets.
Anchor at one of the Malta's famous secluded coves and enjoy swimming, or simply sunbathe onboard while the stewards prepare a delicious buffet lunch (included in the price of this tour).
An open bar on board provides soft drinks, water, beer, and wine after swimming.
Cruise back to the pier.
-During summer months, when ocean waters are warm, jellyfish may be present at swimming and snorkeling locations along certain coastal areas of Malta. Officials recommend that Guests avoid contact with jellyfish, Guests who are allergic to bee and wasp stings should avoid swimming and snorkeling in the presence of jellyfish. Tour operators carry vinegar to treat jellyfish stings.

Dolphin Observer (4 - 4.5 hours)
Drive approximately 30 minutes to the Mediterraneo Marine Park.
Upon your arrival, meet the facility's dolphin trainers and enjoy an interactive introduction to these gentle creatures of the deep, including a discussion of their anatomy, physiology and natural history.
Watch as your loved one experiences the thrill of a lifetime during their Dolphin Swim program.
Have 30 minutes of free time at the Park and pending the show schedule, watch either the parrot show, sea lion show or dolphin educational presentation.
Drive approximately 30 minutes back to ship.
-This excursion is only for Guests accompanying a family member or friend on the Dolphin Swim excursion.

Dolphin Swim (4 - 4.5 hours)
Drive approximately 30 minutes to the Mediterraneo Marine Park.
Upon arrival, meet the facility's dolphin trainers and enjoy an interactive introduction to these gentle creatures of the deep, including a discussion of their anatomy, physiology and natural history.
Learn how dolphins respond to hand signals and positive reinforcement and discover their fantastic ability to communicate under water. Then, delight in an unforgettable hands-on interaction as you are invited to glide your hand over the dolphin's soft skin, share a flipper shake and receive a friendly kiss with your newfound friend. Note: The first portion of the program takes place in shallow water approximately 3 feet deep. The second portion is in deeper water. Lifejackets are mandatory.
Complete your unforgettable encounter with a fun-filled belly ride or dorsal push!
Have time to view the photos taken of you during your swim.
Have 30 minutes of free time at the Park and depending on the show schedule, watch either the parrot show, sea lion show or dolphin educational presentation.

Gozo Experience (7.5 - 8 hours)
Embark on an exciting 45-minute (approx) powerboat ride directly from the pier to the island of Gozo.
Board Jeeps to explore the hidden charms of Gozo, famous for its breathtaking scenery, unspoiled nature, and ancient legends. Explore the stunning cliffs of Xlendi, the Xewkija Dome, and Dwejra, with its Fungus Rock, Inland Sea and Azure Window (a giant archway through which you can admire the expanse of blue sea beyond).
Continue to the saltpans at Qbajjar and Marsalforn Bay.
Enjoy a swimming stop at Hondoq ir-Rummien or Ramla l-Hamra (weather permitting).
Stop for a traditional Gozitan pizza lunch (included in the price of this tour).
Return to Mgarr Harbour for the powerboat ride back to the pier in Valletta.

Highlights of Malta (8 - 8.5 hours)
Enjoy a guided walking tour (wear comfortable shoes) of the city including a visit to the Magisterial Palace's State Rooms and Tapestry Chamber. Note: This tour includes approximately 2 miles of walking at a steady pace, part of which will be on cobblestones and/or uphill, including steps.
Visit St. John's Co-Cathedral where you will view Caravaggio's masterpiece "The Beheading of St. John." Note: No shoulder less tops, stiletto shoes or shorts are allowed inside the churches.
Drive to Mdina. Walk through the narrow streets and visit St. Paul's Cathedral and the Ramparts.
Enjoy a guided visit to Tarxien Temple, a unique prehistoric monument.
Enjoy lunch (included in the price of this tour) in a fish restaurant. Note: Guests will also be provided with non-seafood options.
Drive to the quaint fishing village of Marsaxlokk and enjoy some free time to explore the marketplace and snap photos of the colorful Maltese fishing boats.

-There may be occasions without any prior notice when either the Co-Cathedral or the Magisterial Palace is closed due to official functions. If this should occur, a visit to the Palace Armory and/or the National Museum of Archaeology will be included.
-On the Disney Magic 12 Night Venice Cruises - the St. John's Co-Cathedral is closed. A visit to the National Museum of Archeology will be substituted: Walk to the National Museum of Archaeology which currently houses a spectacular range of artifacts dating back to Malta's Neolithic period. On display at this museum are the earliest tools used by the prehistoric people to facilitate their daily tasks; representations of animal life and also human figures, both elements showing the great artistic skills of the dwellers of the island at the time also giving us an insight on their daily lives. The National Museum of Archaeology presents the visitor with a good introduction to the prehistory of the Maltese Islands and is the catalyst to the other archaeological sites in Malta.

Island Panoramic (4 - 4.5 hours)
Drive approximately 30 minutes to Vittoriosa, one of Malta's 3 most historic cities, and enjoy a guided external visit of the Church of St. Lawrence and Fort St. Angelo.
Continue onto Marsaxlokk, a picturesque fishing village, where you will enjoy approximately 30 minutes of free time to stroll along the waterfront or explore the marketplace.
Drive through several villages to Dingli Cliffs, Malta's highest point.
Travel through Rabat around outside of Mdina and through Mosta, known for its famous domed church. All of these places are seen from the bus only; your Guide will narrate throughout.
Drive back to the ship with an optional drop-off in downtown. Guests who choose this option will be responsible for making their way back to the ship.
-Wheelchairs need to be standard size and collapsible; no electric wheelchairs/scooters permitted. Guests must be able to board and disembark the motor coach on their own.
-There is minimal walking on this tour (approximately 0.2 miles); this tour is recommended for Guests with limited mobility who are able to board and disembark the motor coach.

Jeep Safari (4 - 4.5 hours)
Hop aboard a 4-wheel drive Jeep and drive towards Popeye Village where your first photo stop will be made. Note: Guests should be able to climb into the vehicles which require large steps. Guests with back or neck injuries and expectant mothers may not participate. Also note that the ride can be bumpy in certain locations.
Enjoy breath-taking views as your driver takes you to local towns and villages normally unseen by tourists.
Enjoy a swim stop at Golden Sands (weather permitting).
Continue through the countryside to the Dingli Cliffs and make a photo stop.
Drive back to the pier.

Limestone Heritage & Marsaxlokk by Fun Train (4 - 4.5 hours)
Board your air-conditioned bus for an approximate 30-minute drive to Siggiewi, located at the southern end of Malta. Arrive at the Limestone Heritage, where Guests will have approximately 60 minutes to tour the former quarry and animal park, or join in a live stone-sculpting demonstration.
This exhibit tells the story of quarrying and masonry in Malta, dating back to prehistoric times. The gleaming walls are the backdrop as Guests learn the secrets of ancient quarrying methods and building techniques, aided by a multi-lingual audio tour and specially designed life-size dioramas.
Take the leisurely 45-minute drive to the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, where Guests will board the Fun Train! Discover this beautiful village on a 30-minute fully narrated tour, where you will be able to see and appreciate the spectacular everyday life of an old Maltese town.
Conclude your tour with approximately 45-minutes of free time in Marsaxlokk before the return drive to the pier.

Embark on an unforgettable excursion throughout Malta via private vehicle and experience the freedom of following your own itinerary at your own pace. Note: Only one ticket (person) per vehicle should be booked.
Receive a private vehicle which is air-conditioned and comes with an English-speaking driver.

All departures are default for a morning time. Once onboard, you will receive a preference sheet and an option to adjust your departure time.

Malta by Segway (3.5 - 4 hours)
Drive approximately 30 minutes to the town of Dingli, passing many villages and typical Maltese terrain.
Participate in a safety briefing and demonstration before having some practice time to get accustomed to these unique forms of transportation.
Follow your guide to Buskett Gardens via the Dingli Cliffs. Buskett Gardens is the only established green space in Malta and its position makes it ideal for some fun Segway off-roading.
Proceed to another section of the Dingli Cliffs passing the Girgenti Palace, the president's residence and continue on to the cliffs overlooking the Islet of Filfla.
Arrive at Magdalene Chapel perched high on the cliffs that feature stunning panoramic views of the coastline.
After a 15 minute break, depart towards base in Dingli.
Return to the pier in Valetta with an optional drop-off in downtown (subject to the ship's all-aboard time). Guests who choose the downtown drop-off will be responsible for making their own way back to the ship.
-This tour is not recommended to Guests with health restrictions, seizure disorders, intolerance or sensitivity to extreme heat and sun. Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs is prohibited from riding. Minimum weight is 99 pounds and maximum weight is 250 pounds.

-Segways have adjustable handlebars to make the ride safe and fun, regardless of height. All Guests are required to wear protective helmets at all times.

Mdina, Mosta and Shopping (4 - 4.5 hours)
Take an approximate 30-minute drive to the town of Mosta.
Enjoy a guided visit to the famous Mosta Dome, considered the third largest church dome in Europe. Note: This tour includes approximately 1.5 miles of walking at a leisurely pace, part of which will be on cobblestones and/or uphill (wear comfortable walking shoes).
Continue to the town of Mdina. Walk through the narrow streets and visit St. Paul's Cathedral and the Ramparts. Note: no shoulderless tops, stiletto heels or shorts are permitted inside St. Paul's Cathedral.
Enjoy 45-minutes of free time to explore the Ta' Qali Handicrafts Village and watch local artisans at work producing typical Maltese ware such as glass, silver and filigree.
Drive approximately 30 minutes back to the ship.
-This tour is not available on the Disney Magic 12 Night Venice Cruises.
-There may be occasions without prior notice when either the Mosta Dome or Mdina Cathedral is closed due to a religious function. If this should occur, an outside tour will be included in addition to a photo stop at Dingli Cliffs.

The Valletta Historical Hunt (4 - 4.5 hour)
Drive approximately 15 minutes to Valletta, the capital city of Malta.
Each family will receive a map and a booklet which includes a series of questions. Note: This tour includes approximately 2 miles of walking at a leisurely pace, part of which will be on cobblestones and/or uphill.
Venture around the streets of Valletta in search of the answers to the tricky questions found in the booklet to complete your mission and win points for your family. During the hunt, pass Auberges (inns) of the Knights of Malta and important buildings such as the Grand Master's Palace and St. John's Co-Cathedral.
Meet the Master of Ceremonies, who will collect the booklets and announce the winning team.

Three Historical Cities and Dghajsa Boat Ride (4 - 4.5 hours)
Drive approximately 30 minutes to Senglea, one of the "Three Historic Cities" of Malta.
Embark on a guided walking tour of Senglea (wear comfortable walking shoes) and enjoy the panoramic view of the Grand Harbor from the historic bastions. Note: This tour includes approximately 1.5 mile of walking at a steady pace, part of which will be on cobblestones, steps and/or uphill.
Drive through Cospicua to Vittoriosa and upon arrival; walk with your guide along the narrow streets of the city admiring historic sites such as the Church of St. Lawrence and Fort St. Angelo (external visits).
Embark on a traditional Maltese "Dghajsa" (small boat) for a 30 minute trip within the harbor. Note: Each Dghajsa accommodates up to 6 Guests and lifejackets are mandatory.
Enjoy approximately 30-45 minutes of free time in Marsaxlokk to explore the busy marketplace and take photos of the colorful Maltese fishing boats.
Drive approximately 30 minutes back to the ship.

Valletta and Mdina-A Tale of Two Cities (5 - 5.5 hours)
Drive approximately 15 minutes to Valletta, the capital city of Malta.
Enjoy a guided walking tour (wear comfortable shoes) of the city including a visit to the Magisterial Palace's State Rooms and Tapestry Chamber. Note: This tour includes approximately 2 miles of walking at a leisurely pace, part of which will be on cobblestones and/or uphill.

Note: No shoulderless tops, stiletto heels or shorts are permitted inside St. Paul's Cathedral. The Cathedral is not open on Sunday calls for the Disney Magic 12 Night Venice Cruise.
Drive back to the ship.

Valletta for Kids (3 - 3.5 hours)
Drive approximately 15 minutes to Valletta, the capital city of Malta.

Note: This tour includes approximately 1.5 miles of walking at a steady pace, part of which will be on cobblestones and/or uphill.

Valletta-The City of the Knights (4 - 4.5 hours)
Drive from the pier around Valletta's fortifications.
Visit the Upper Barracca Gardens for a panoramic view of Malta's natural harbors and the historic cities of Senglea, Cospicua and Vittoriosa. Note: This tour includes approximately 1.5 miles of walking at a steady pace, part of which will be on cobblestones, steps and/or uphill. Guests should wear comfortable walking shoes.
Walk to St. John's Co-Cathedral where you will view Caravaggio's masterpiece "The Beheading of St. John". No shoulderless tops, stiletto shoes or shorts are allowed inside the Co-Cathedral.
Continue on foot to the Magisterial Palace and visit the State Rooms and Tapestry Chamber.
Enjoy 30 to 45-minutes of free time for shopping and independent sightseeing.
Drive back to the pier.
There may be occasions without any prior notice when either the Co-Cathedral or the Magisterial Palace is closed due to official functions. If this should occur, a visit to the Palace Armory and/or the National Museum of Archaeology will be included.
-On the Disney Magic 12 Night Venice Cruises - the St. Johns Co-Cathedral is closed. A visit to the National Museum of Archeology will be substituted: Walk to the National Museum of Archaeology which currently houses a spectacular range of artefacts dating back to Malta's Neolithic period. On display at this museum are the earliest tools used by the prehistoric people to facilitate their daily tasks; representations of animal life and also human figures, both elements showing the great artistic skills of the dwellers of the island at the time also giving us an insight on their daily lives. The National Museum of Archaeology presents the visitor with a good introduction to the prehistory of the Maltese Islands and is the catalyst to the other archaeological sites in Malta.
